Hey there!
So my fourth post is about a poem called "Identity Crisis" by David Senenske. As i read this poem, it really reminded me of the main character in my book whose name is Colin Singleton. Colin starts to lose himself and starts changing his personality once he gets dumped by the love of his life. Since he's always been that one guy who was "special". They call him special only because he's a child prodigy. He's for sure smarter than most of the people around him book wise, socially awkward, but girl wise..yeah, he still needs a little more work in that department.
Colin feels that after he gets dumped that he wasn't loved for himself. He also feels like no one really appreciates him, or even really cares honestly.
Katherine broke up with Colin because he cared too much about knowing how she felt. Like if she loved him, cared about him, and so forth. So after that night, something in his mind made him think "well she just never really cared about me.", "she didn't love me.". Basically, he was confused. Big time..
The one line that stuck out to me in this poem was "It is not me that you see, It is just your fantasy." It fit perfectly how Colin was feeling at the moment when Katherine broke up with him. In "An Abundance Of Katherines." it talks a lot about Colin losing himself. Not knowing what to do, feeling confused after getting dumped by a girl that he really loved.
The way that this poem was written really showed what an identity crisis really is and how perfectly it fits with Colin. He might be different, feeling like no one really cares, But the more you read, you'll see how much progress Colin starts to make on letting Katherine go, and becoming his own self again.
"dazed and confused
I'm tired of being used
It is not me that you see
It is just your fantasy
It's an identity crisis
An identity crisis
Work all day for my pay
doing it the bosses way
At night I'm a fright
Wondering if all is right
It's an identity crisis
an identity crisis
Weekends here need a beer
Gotta get out of here
On the road one my hog
Acting like a dog
It's and identity crisis
An Identity crisis
All weekend long having fun
Riding in the sun
Seeing sights that I like
While sitting on my bike
It's and Identity crisis
An identity crisis
Sunday night come
The fun is done
Sleeping in my home
Feeling like a drone
It's an Identity crisis
An identity crisis "
