So my first blog post is on my opinion about the first four chapters on "An Abundance Of Katherines" .
In the first for chapters the main character Colin Singleton shows to be really depressed and upset over his ex-girlfriend Katherine. Except, this isn't his first break up. It's his 19th. To throw it all together, Colin has dated 19 girls named Katherines.
Colin was head over heels for this girl. He absolutely loved her, adored her, you name it. When she dumped him Colin felt lost. He's never really been that kind of boy who was socially in with the crowd. He was the opposite. The way that Colin thought about Katherine, (19th one) he felt like she was "the one" they had planned to go to Paris together, go to Louvre together, go to great restaurants and drink red wine together.
Sounds cute, but it hurts him to remember what they had. Colin in the first chapter talks about finding his "EUREKA!" moment when he found the perfect girl.
In my opinion, I'm loving this book so far. The way John Green shows Colin's feelings towards this girl, makes me think and remember how I felt when I had gone through a bad break up. As well as him showing how Colin is slowly starting to lose who he is, and is still in a confused stage after the break-up. My favorite quote so far in the book is in chapter 3, when Colin's dad tries to snap him back into reality. "It pains me to say this, Colin, but if you wish to continue to grow intellectually, you need to work harder right now than ever before." I like that because his dad shows how much he cares about Colin when he's at his lowest peak.
As I read on, I believe that Colin will eventually start to be himself again, move on from the heartbreak, and start finding himself as well. I also believe that he will find his "EUREKA!" moment when he least expects it.
